When we design a project, we care more about layout and wiring, and often overlook the additional PCB manufacturing cost in the design. This post discusses which factors affect the price of pcb in the design and avoid increasing costs for customers.
1.Number of wiring layers. It’s easy to do layout if number of layers is much, but the price rises linearly with the number of layers. The higher the number of layers, the more the price doubles.
2.Through hole. As far as possible, more than 0.25mm, less than 0.25mm, most manufacturers have to charge.
3.Via in pad with plated. Usually manufacturers have to increase the cost. Try not to use unless there are restrictions on the signal and layout.
4.Back drilling. For high-speed signals such as backplanes, do not use them.
5. Line width line spacing. Usually less than 6 mils, manufacturers have to increase the charges.
6. Material sheets (high tg halogen-free high frequency = non-conventional sheet) increase the procurement cycle and increase production costs. Some high-frequency plates can be mixed with ordinary plates, which can reduce costs.
7.HDI and blind burial, the cost increase is very large, if the package allows the best not to use. (0.65 and above bga packages can be fanned out through holes, some 0.5bga packages can be fanned out through holes, mainly looking at package pads and available pins)
8. The surface process (Immersion Gold,Immersion Tin, Immersion Silver, gold finger =) increases the related costs, which are mainly determined by the customer and can be explained to the customer during design. Add a point: copper thickness, PCB area, the number and type of holes, the thickness of the gold layer treated on the surface, and even the delivery date will affect the price of the PCB. It is difficult to consider. Because some product prices are strictly controlled, you need a lot of attention, such as the PCB cascading, via backdrill and plug hole mentioned by the landlord, especially the choice of PCB materials; some products are not particularly concerned about cost, this time It can be more willful. Of course, in general, when we control costs, we must consider its reliability, because sometimes the cost of PCB is not the most expensive (except for some high-end PCBs).
